The collaboration framework has been signed on the sidelines of the Global Energy Show 2026 held in Calgary on June 10. The initiative aims to strengthen India-Canada cooperation in addressing global challenges related to energy transition and sustainability.

PTRC, a not-for-profit energy research company of the Province of Saskatchewan, and OIL, a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, will work together in areas including CCUS, geothermal energy, development of clean energy technologies, and research initiatives involving mc2+, a startup platform established under the aegis of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.

The signing ceremony was attended by Scott Moe, Premier of Saskatchewan, the High Commissioner of India to Canada, senior executives of PTRC, and OIL's leadership, including its Chairman and Managing Director.

Under the collaboration framework, the two organisations will explore the utilization of captured carbon dioxide through permanent geological sequestration and mineralization, as well as innovative enhanced oil recovery (EOR) methods aimed at reducing the environmental impact and energy intensity of oil and gas production.
