New Delhi: Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has taken operational control of the Mori-5 well as efforts to stabilise the gas blowout made steady progress, with flame intensity, noise levels and ambient heat easing significantly, the company said on Tuesday.

The well is being operated by PEC contractor Deep Industries, while ONGC’s Crisis Management Team is overseeing blowout control operations in line with the approved action plan.

Debris clearance, access road completed

According to ONGC, an approach road from the rear end of the wellsite has been completed to enable debris clearance, and the required logistics have been mobilised for systematic removal of debris around the site.

A water blanket has also been established at the wellsite to support continued debris removal near the wellhead and to facilitate subsequent operations to cap the well, as per the action plan.

District administration allows normal activity to resume

Citing steady progress and a remote likelihood of escalation, the district administration has advised residents in surrounding areas to resume normal activities, ONGC said.

The company said the safety of the community and protection of the environment remain its highest priorities, with all actions being carried out in compliance with regulatory requirements and established industry best practices.
