New Delhi: New Delhi: In a recent development concerning the top leadership post at Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL), the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has announced that no candidate was selected for the role of Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) following the selection meeting held on June 26, 2025.

The meeting, convened at 3:30 PM on Thursday, was held to interview shortlisted candidates for the CMD position at HSL, a Schedule ‘B’ Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Defence. A total of 12 candidates from various central public sector undertakings and defence organisations appeared before the selection panel. Despite the diverse pool of senior executives and officers interviewed, the Board concluded that none were suitable for the post at this stage.

The PESB has therefore advised the Administrative Ministry/Department to consider alternative courses of action, including the constitution of a Search-cum-Selection Committee (SCSC), or any other method deemed appropriate, subject to the approval of the competent authority.

The list of candidates interviewed included senior officials from organisations such as BHEL, NTPC, SAIL, Hindustan Copper Ltd, NMDC, Central Warehousing Corporation, and the National Security Council Secretariat, among others.

This development indicates that the selection process for the top post at HSL will now enter a new phase, potentially involving a broader search to identify a suitable candidate to lead the strategic defence PSU based in Visakhapatnam.

Hindustan Shipyard Limited plays a key role in India’s shipbuilding and defence preparedness ecosystem and the appointment of its CMD is considered a crucial decision for the enterprise’s future trajectory.
