PM Modi dedicates Rare Earth Permanent Magnet Plant at BARC

PM Modi dedicated Rare Earth Permanent Magnet Plant at BARC campus, Visakhapatnam to the nation on the occasion of “National Technology Day”

New Delhi: The Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated Rare Earth Permanent Magnet Plant, BARC campus, Visakhapatnam to the nation on the occasion of 25th anniversary of the “National Technology Day” on May 11. On the occasion, PM Modi also laid the foundation stone of Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory – India (LIGO-India).

May 11 marks the 25th anniversary of the 1998 nuclear tests carried out at Pokhran test range, including its first test of a thermonuclear device, which has since been celebrated as the National Technology Day to honour scientists, engineers and technologists who made the tests possible.

Integrated facility for producing Rare Earth Metal, Alloy and Magnet on industrial scale has been set up by IREL (India) Limited based on laboratory scale process developed by BARC and DMRL. MECON carried out the engineering of the project while infrastructure assistance was provided by EPIL. The plant will produce Rare Earth Permanent Magnets and envisions making India Atma Nirbhar in the strategic sectors of Atomic Energy, Defence and Space.

IREL (India) Limited's CMD D Singh on the occasion expressed that IREL will continue to serve the nation with the same devotion and innovation.
