Developed under the Government of India’s UDAN scheme in collaboration with the Airports Authority of India (AAI), the airport has been upgraded for domestic operations. Approximately 7,117 acres have been allocated to the Civil Aviation Department to facilitate the transformation of Hisar Aerodrome into a modern aviation hub.

The new terminal, designed as an architectural tribute to the conch (symbolizing prosperity), will span 41,624 square meters and accommodate up to 1,000 passengers during peak hours, with an annual capacity of 21 lakh passengers. It will include 24 check-in counters, four conveyor belts, and six X-ray machines, along with airside facilities such as an apron with 10 parking stands for A-321 aircraft. The runway has already been extended from 1,200 meters to 3,000 meters, and the terminal aims to achieve a GRIHA-V sustainability rating.

The overall development will also include an ATC tower, a cargo complex, a fire station, an administrative block, and parking infrastructure. Speaking at the event, the Prime Minister praised the people of Haryana and reiterated the government’s commitment to inclusive growth, stating that even those wearing slippers will be able to travel by air.

Highlighting India’s aviation progress, he noted that the number of operational airports in the country has grown to over 150, with 90 of them connected under the UDAN scheme. The Hisar Airport development is expected to significantly boost connectivity and economic activity in Haryana and adjoining regions of Rajasthan and Punjab.
