Power Grid board okays investment of Rs 914 crore for procurement of cold spare transformers & reactors

Power Grid board has approved investment proposals worth Rs 913.99 crore for the procurement of cold spare transformers and reactors across multiple regional power committees

New Delhi: Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) has approved investment proposals worth Rs 913.99 crore for the procurement of cold spare transformers and reactors across multiple regional power committees. The information has been shared by the Maharatna power PSU in a regulatory filing to the stock exchanges on Tuesday.

According to the company, the approvals have been granted by Power Grid’s Committee of Directors on Investment on Projects in a meeting held on January 20.

According to the disclosure, the Committee approved the implementation of three separate procurement proposals. The first involves procurement of cold spare transformers and reactors approved in the 51st Western Regional Power Committee (WRPC) at an estimated cost of Rs 401.88 crore. The second proposal pertains to procurement approved in the 28th North Eastern Regional Power Committee (NERPC) with an estimated cost of Rs 166.33 crore. The third proposal covers procurement approved in the 53rd Southern Regional Power Committee (SRPC) at an estimated cost of Rs 345.78 crore.

All three projects are scheduled to be implemented within 30 months from the date of investment approval.

The procurement of cold spare transformers and reactors is aimed at strengthening grid reliability and ensuring faster restoration in case of equipment failure across regional transmission networks. Such spares play a critical role in maintaining uninterrupted power supply and enhancing operational resilience of the national grid.
