Five dead in tanker-car collision in Dharapuram in TN

Tiruppur (TN), Nov 16 (PTI) Five persons, including three women, were killed in a collision between a petroleum tanker and a car at Manakadavu in Dharapuram in the district, police said on Thursday.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin conveyed his condolences over the deaths and announced a solatium of Rs 2 lakh each for the kin of the deceased.

The occupants of the car died in the head-on collision with the petroleum tanker at Manakadavu, police said.

The tanker was approaching Dharapuram from Coimbatore while the car was proceeding to Dharapuram from Palani when the accident took place.

The front portions of the tanker and the car were smashed in the impact of the collision.

Stating that he was deeply anguished over the tragic accident, the Chief Minister conveyed his heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the bereaved families.

He announced a solatium of Rs 2 lakh each for the kin of the deceased who have been identified as Balakrishnan (65), his wife Selvi (50) of Dharapuram, Tamilmani (50), and his wife Chitra (45), of Periyanaickenpalayam in Coimbatore district who died on the spot, and Kala Rani (55) of Dindigul, who succumbed at the Dharapuram Government Hospital.
