New Delhi: Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Housing and Urban Affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri will inaugurate the 25th Lubricating Grease Conference on March 3 in Hotel Grand Hyatt, Gurugram. The Lubricating Grease Conference is being hosted by the National Lubricating Grease Institute (NLGI)-India Chapter. The theme of the 25th NLGI Conference is 'New Frontiers in Grease Industry: Moving Towards Net Zero'. Stakeholders from the entire Grease Value Chain, including Grease manufacturers from India and abroad, will attend the conference.
Lubricating Greases, though small in terms of volume as compared to lubricating oils, are high-value products and contribute significantly to the development of the modern industrial sector. Currently, the Indian lubricating grease market is around 1,00,000 tonnes annually which is approximately 10 percent of global grease production.
The India Chapter of the National Lubricating Grease Institute (NLGI) is the organiser of the 25th Lubricating Grease Conference. NLGI-India Chapter is an association of Indian Grease Manufacturers & allied industry partners, a part of the parent organization NLGI-USA. It started its journey in 1997, with its headquarters located in the IndianOil R&D campus at Faridabad. NLGI-India Chapter is now celebrating its 25th Silver Jubilee. As part of its knowledge disseminating function, NLGI-India Chapter conducts one technical Conference and one Grease education course for the grease industry annually, besides bringing out publications & news bulletins and participating in new grease standard development. It also promotes research & development through interactions with NLGI-IC executives at various industry forums.
The sole purpose of NLGI-IC is to upgrade the standards of Grease manufacturing in India, meet the global standards (at par with the very best from Europe/ USA/ Japan, and realize the dream of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make India a global manufacturing hub. This approach will not only enable India to stop imports of speciality Greases from Europe / USA but will also make India a powerhouse to manufacture world-class greases and export to mature Western markets, meeting stringent OEM standards.
All major organised institutional grease manufacturers (both PSU & Private), which account for over 90 percent of Indian grease production, are members of this society. This includes Indian Grease manufacturing & allied industries covering all PSUs (IndianOil, HPCL, BPCL & BL) and private organisations. NLGI-India Chapter has so far successfully organised 24 lubricating grease conferences at different places in India. The grease experts from a member organisation of NLGI-IC are part of the Bureau of Indian Standards Committees and help in developing new industry standards to adopt the benefits of the latest technologies meeting environmental norms.
