RailTel performs bhoomi puja for 10 MW Silver Jubilee Data Centre in Noida

RailTel has performed the bhoomi puja for its upcoming 10 MW data centre in Noida

New Delhi: RailTel Corporation of India, a Navratna CPSE under the Ministry of Railways, on Monday performed the bhoomi puja for its upcoming 10 MW data centre in Noida. The facility, developed in partnership with Techno Electric & Engineering Company Limited (TEECL), marks what the company described as a major step in strengthening India’s digital infrastructure. The ceremony was conducted by RailTel CMD Sanjai Kumar in the presence of senior officials from both organisations.

Extending his wishes, Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said, “I express my compliments to the RailTel team for setting up 10 MW Data Centre in Noida. This is in line with the Digital India Mission as envisioned by Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi ji. This domestic data centre will help meet Bharat’s data localization requirements and strengthen National data security.”

Facility to support hosting, co-location and managed services

The data centre, spread across 17,000 sq. m and located in Noida Phase 2, will initially be developed for 10 MW capacity. RailTel said the facility will comply with the latest industry standards and offer hosting, co-location and managed services. The project is being executed under a 30-year revenue-sharing agreement, awarded through an open tender.

Sanjai Kumar said the partnership “reflects our shared commitment to the Digital India mission,” adding that TEECL is RailTel’s long-term managed service data centre partner. “Together, we are extending our nationwide network including tier-2 and tier-3 towns to deliver future-ready digital infrastructure that will support AI adoption, cloud-first strategies, and secure connectivity across government, enterprises, and underserved regions.”

TEECL Director and CEO Ankit Saraiya said the bhoomi puja is “a significant step in our journey to build one of India’s most sustainable and interconnected digital infrastructure.” He added that the project would set “a new benchmark in sustainability by delivering India’s first carbon-neutral data centre operating entirely on renewable energy.”

RailTel, TEECL outline broader digital and energy ambitions

RailTel noted that its extensive digital infrastructure includes 63,000 route km of optical fibre along railway tracks, over 21,000 km of citywide access networks, 11,000+ points of presence and more than 1,100 telecom towers. It also operates one of the world’s largest public Wi-Fi networks across 6,112 railway stations, supported by a central and multiple regional network operation centres.

TEECL, which has a market capitalisation of over USD 1.5 billion, said its partnership with RailTel aligns with its expanding interests in renewable energy, emission control systems, battery storage, smart metering and edge data centre development. The company said it aims to build India’s largest interconnected data centre network, leveraging its legacy in power infrastructure and new digital initiatives.
