New Delhi: Indian Railways has introduced 137 additional trains alongside 349 regular ones to manage the influx of devotees at the ongoing Mahakumbh. Over 15.6 lakh passengers used Prayagraj stations in the first two days. Ring rail services have also been launched to connect nearby temple towns such as Chitrakoot, Ayodhya, and Varanasi.
During the 46-day Mahakumbh, over 13,100 trains, including 3,100 special trains, will operate. Nine stations around Prayagraj have been upgraded, adding seven new platforms and enhancing capacity. Subedarganj has been developed as a satellite station.
To improve passenger convenience, 17 new Yatri Ashrayas have been added, increasing holding capacity to over 1.1 lakh. Amenities include upgraded waiting areas, additional toilets, enhanced water and food services, and the launch of Yatri Suvidha Kendra at key stations for essential services. These measures aim to provide seamless travel for millions of devotees.
