New Delhi: The Indian Railways reported a substantial increase in freight loading and revenue for June 2024, marking a notable year-on-year improvement. The national transporter achieved an originating freight loading of 135.46 million tonnes (MT) in June 2024, up from 123.06 MT in June 2023, representing a growth of approximately 10.07 percent.

Freight revenue for the same period saw a rise of about 11.12 percent, reaching Rs 14,798.11 crore compared to Rs 13,316.81 crore in June 2023.

Breaking down the freight categories, Indian Railways loaded 60.27 MT of coal (excluding imports), 8.82 MT of imported coal, 15.07 MT of iron ore, 5.36 MT of pig iron and finished steel, 7.56 MT of cement (excluding clinker), 5.28 MT of clinker, 4.21 MT of foodgrains, 5.30 MT of fertilizers, 4.18 MT of mineral oil, 6.97 MT of containers, and 10.06 MT of other goods.

The growth aligns with Indian Railways' initiative "Hungry For Cargo," aimed at enhancing the ease of doing business and improving service delivery at competitive prices. The customer-centric approach and the efforts of Business Development Units, coupled with agile policy-making, have been key drivers of this achievement.
