Relinquishing PowerGrid duty, CMD IS Jha becomes CERC member

The power ministry has given Ravi P Singh, director of the state-run transmission utility, the duty of serving as CMD for three months, or till the appointment of a regular incumbent

New Delhi: Relinquishing his duties as Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL) Chairman, IS Jha became a member of the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC). Jha, who had been the company's chairman and managing director (CMD) since 2015, was to retire in June. According to a statement released by the Ministry of Power, Jha was appointed a CERC member through an order issued on January 4. Power Minister RK Singh administered the oath of office and secrecy to Jha.

In a separate order, the power ministry has given Ravi P Singh, director of the state-run transmission utility, the duty of serving as CMD for three months, or till the appointment of a regular incumbent. The CERC comprises a chairperson and four other members, including the chairperson and Central Electricity Authority, the ex-officio Member of the Commission.

Further, the ministry added that Lalchharliana Pachuau has been appointed as a Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) member for Manipur and Mizoram from the Mizoram side. Pachuau has been the chief engineer in JERC for Manipur and Mizoram since July 2013. "Pachuau has been appointed for a period of five years or till the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier in accordance with the provisions in the Memorandum of Agreement signed by the state governments of Manipur and Mizoram. He has worked as Chief (Engg) in JERC for Manipur & Mizoram since July 2013," an official release said.
