The upgraded trainset was flagged off by DMRC Managing Director Dr. Vikas Kumar at the Najafgarh Depot in New Delhi.

The refurbishment has been executed by a consortium comprising RITES along with Australia-based r2p Asia-Pacific Pty Ltd. and ACT Fibreglass Ltd.. The project marks a significant step in modernising metro rolling stock with advanced onboard communication and passenger information systems.

According to the company, the newly installed PAPIS is based on an integrated IP architecture with a centralized Human Machine Interface (HMI), enabling seamless control over passenger information systems, public address, CCTV and onboard communication networks. Built on Power over Ethernet (PoE) technology, the system reduces wiring complexity, lowers lifecycle costs and enhances reliability and maintenance efficiency.

The system also incorporates enhanced safety features, including CCTV surveillance, emergency communication and alarm systems, along with real-time diagnostics for improved operational efficiency. It complies with relevant BIS, EN and MeitY/STQC standards.

In addition to the PAPIS upgrade, the trainset refurbishment includes repainting of saloon interiors, installation of IV couplers, fire detection systems, mobile charging sockets, and refurbishment of electrical distribution boards (EDB) and relay panels.

RITES said the initiative reflects its continued focus on delivering future-ready and benchmarked solutions for urban mobility systems through its expertise in transport infrastructure and system integration.

A Navratna public sector enterprise, RITES has over five decades of experience and has executed projects across more than 55 countries spanning Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East.
