The project involves the upgradation of the electric traction system from the existing 1x25 kV to a more efficient 2x25 kV traction system. The work will be carried out along the Salem Junction (SA) – Podanur Junction (PTJ) and Irugur (IGU) – Coimbatore Junction (CBE) – Podanur Junction (PTJ) sections, falling under the Salem Division of Southern Railway.

The enhancement is aimed at meeting a freight loading target of 3,000 metric tonnes, aligning with Indian Railways' broader goal of augmenting carrying capacity and improving energy efficiency across key freight corridors.

RVNL clarified that the project falls under the company’s regular course of business. The contract further strengthens RVNL’s position as a major player in India’s rail infrastructure development, particularly in projects linked to electrification and modernisation.
