New Delhi: South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), the flagship subsidiary of Coal India Limited (CIL), has recorded its best-ever first-quarter performance, achieving record coal production, offtake and overburden removal (OBR) during Q1 FY2026-27.

The company produced 44.10 million tonnes (MT) of coal during the quarter, up 7.19 percent year-on-year, while coal offtake reached a record 48.79 MT, registering a 5.29 percent growth. Overburden removal stood at 99.36 million cubic metres (MCuM), marking a 5.62 percent increase over the corresponding period last year.
SECL also achieved its highest-ever monthly performance in June 2026, with record coal production and offtake, while OBR touched an all-time high of 34.05 MCuM, exceeding the monthly target by nearly 10 percent and growing 17.3 percent year-on-year.
The company's mechanised coal evacuation through First Mile Connectivity (FMC) systems rose 19.7 percent to 19.58 MT during the quarter, reflecting increased adoption of cleaner and more efficient silo-based loading. Coal supplies to the power sector increased 5.4 percent to 37.79 MT, supporting electricity demand during the peak summer and early monsoon season.
SECL also reported a 23.35 percent increase in underground coal production to 3.17 MT, its highest first-quarter underground output in the last six years.

Commenting on the performance, SECL Chairman-cum-Managing Director Harish Duhan said the record operational achievements underscores company's commitment to efficient and sustainable mining practices. With comprehensive monsoon preparedness measures already in place across mining operations, SECL remain committed to ensuring uninterrupted coal supplies and supporting the nation's energy security.
