Sensex gains 300 points; Nifty over 18,600 points

Mumbai: On Monday, domestic stock indices opened higher following global cues, with US equities gaining after the US Senate passed the debt ceiling deal. The BSE Sensex, the benchmark index, rose by 366.38 points or 0.59 percent to reach 62,913.49, while the broader NSE Nifty gained 46.35 points or 0.25 percent to reach 18,534.10. By 9:40 am, the Sensex had climbed further, up by 290.76 points or 0.46 percent at 62,837.87, and the Nifty50 had gained 74.70 points or 0.40 percent to reach 18,608.80. Axis Bank and Mahindra & Mahindra were the top gainers during this period.

In the opening trade, the top gainers included Hindalco, Hero MotoCorp, Apollo Hospital, Tata Steel, Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra & Mahindra, ICICI Bank, Tata Motors, and Wipro. At that time, the top losers included Divis Lab, BPCL, Tech Mahindra, Asian Paints, Cipla, IndusInd Bank, Hindustan Unilever, Eicher Motors, Coal India, and Dr Reddy's.

Broader markets continue their winning streak

The broader markets also continued their winning streak, with the Nifty MicroCap 250 gaining 0.98 percent, Nifty Smallcap 250 rising 0.67 percent, Nifty Smallcap 100 climbing 0.60 percent, and Nifty Midcap 400 gaining 0.53 percent. All sectors were trading positively, with the Nifty Media gaining 0.89 percent, Nifty Private Bank rising 0.66 percent, and Nifty Bank and Nifty Auto both gaining 0.56 percent.
