New Delhi: THDC India Limited (THDCIL) has entered into a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board and the Geological Survey of India (GSI) to conduct slope stability studies along the pilgrimage route to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan in Jammu & Kashmir.
The MoU has been signed on Tuesday at the Shrine Board’s Central Office in Katra. The agreement seeks to ensure the long-term safety and resilience of the yatra route through advanced geotechnical and geophysical investigations, and the design of modern slope stabilization measures.
THDC, a premier Central Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Power, brings to the project its proven expertise in hydro power development, geotechnical consultancy, and landslide mitigation, particularly in the Himalayan region. Speaking on the occasion, THDCIL CMD R.K. Vishnoi highlighted the company's broader role in contributing to national development and infrastructure resilience in geologically sensitive areas.
Director (Personnel) Shallinder Singh, emphasized THDCIL’s long-standing association with the Shrine Board since 2011 as its technical consultant. He noted that the GSI will undertake geological investigations, while THDCIL will focus on technical assessments and design interventions.
THDCIL has a strong portfolio of consultancy assignments, including preparation of over 430 DPRs for landslide mitigation across various regions in India. The company has also extended its expertise internationally, having provided engineering services to the Royal Government of Bhutan.
The MoU was signed by Alok Kumar Maurya, IFS, Additional CEO of the Shrine Board; Dr. Niraj Agrawal, GM, Design (Civil-II), THDCIL; and Sanjiv Kumar, Deputy Director General, GSI (NR). Senior officials from the three organisations were present at the ceremony.
This collaboration reinforces THDCIL’s role as a trusted technical partner in enhancing infrastructure safety and supporting pilgrimage and tourism in the region.
