UP CM, National Statistical Commission discuss strengthening state’s data systems for $1-trillion economy vision

New Delhi: A high-level meeting was held between Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and senior officials of the National Statistical Commission (NSC) and the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) to discuss strengthening the state’s statistical framework in support of its vision to become a $1-trillion economy.

The discussions, led by NSC Chairman Prof. Rajiva Laxman Karandikar and attended by MoSPI Secretary Dr. Saurabh Garg, focused on improving the quality, reliability, and timeliness of key statistical indicators, including State GDP, Consumer Price Index, employment data, and industrial statistics.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath appreciated the collaboration between MoSPI and NSC in enhancing data quality and emphasized the state’s commitment to data-driven governance through initiatives such as the CM Dashboard and the One Trillion Economy Mission.

NSC Chairman Prof. Karandikar underlined the importance of robust statistics for evidence-based policymaking and assured continued technical support in areas like GSDP estimation and survey design. Dr. Garg highlighted MoSPI’s support to Uttar Pradesh under the Support for Statistical Strengthening (SSS) scheme to build modern statistical infrastructure and train DES officials.

The Commission commended the Directorate of Economics and Statistics (DES), Uttar Pradesh, for its contributions to national surveys and for maintaining one of the lowest inflation rates among major states. Discussions also covered the upcoming revision of the GDP and IIP base year to 2022–23.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to building a transparent, technology-enabled, and data-driven statistical ecosystem to accelerate Uttar Pradesh’s economic growth and ensure inclusive development.
