UP Defence Industrial Corridor attracts investment proposals worth Rs 35,526 crore

New Delhi: The Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor (UPDIC), launched in 2018, has attracted investment proposals worth Rs 35,526.76 crore so far, with nine units becoming operational across its six nodes in the state, according to officials.

Developed by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), the corridor spans six nodes -- Kanpur, Jhansi, Lucknow, Aligarh, Agra and Chitrakoot-- and aims to boost indigenous defence manufacturing in the state under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, according to an official statement.

As per the UPEIDA's latest report, about 2,040 hectares of land have been acquired for the project, of which 977.54 hectares have already been allotted to industries. A total of 62 companies have been allocated land across the six nodes, while lease deeds are in process for 11 additional units.

Node-wise investments include Rs 12,803 crore in Kanpur, Rs 11,738 crore in Jhansi, Rs 4,850 crore in Lucknow, Rs 4,490 crore in Aligarh, Rs 880 crore in Chitrakoot and Rs 607 crore in Agra.

Among the companies that have begun operations, Adani Defence & Aerospace has started production at its Rs 1,500 crore ammunition plant in Kanpur, the largest investment in the corridor so far. In Aligarh, Amitec Electronics is manufacturing electronic warfare and satellite systems, while Werywin Defence and Nitya Creations have begun producing small arms and precision components.

Lucknow is emerging as a hub for advanced defence technologies, with firms such as Aerolloy Technologies producing titanium castings, BrahMos Aerospace assembling the BrahMos NG missile and Sankalp Safety Solutions manufacturing safety gear.
