Renowned economist Ashok Kumar Lahiri on Friday took charge as Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog

New Delhi: Renowned economist Ashok Kumar Lahiri on Friday took charge as Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog.

Lahiri replaced Suman Bery.

Lahiri is a former chief economic advisor to the government of India and a member of the 15th Finance Commission.

Welcoming Lahiri to the post, NITI Aayog said his extensive experience in economic policy and public finance will further strengthen the institution’s efforts towards evidence-based policymaking and economic transformation.

NITI Aayog said Lahiri’s experience spanning academia, public institutions and international organisations is expected to contribute significantly to advancing India’s development agenda and supporting strategic policy initiatives across sectors.

The policy think tank expressed confidence that his leadership and expertise would help further its mandate of driving reforms and fostering sustainable economic growth in the country.
