Deccan Queen serves worm-infested omelette to passenger

PSU Watch Bureau

New Delhi: Deccan Queen, which is one of the most premium train services of India, created a storm on social media when it served a worm-infested omelette to one of its commuters. The incident was reported by one Sagar Kale, a resident of Pune, who was returning from Mumbai where he travels for work frequently.

According to a report that appeared in the Mumbai Mirror, Kale did not initially register a complaint, but later decided to inform the Central Railway authorities about the incident.

Worms on a plate

In his complaint, Kale said that when he was served omelette at his seat, he found worms on the plate and in the pepper sprayed on the egg. The tomato sauce served with the meal was also unpalatable as "it seemed that it had been stored for a really long time," he said.

The meal was immediately replaced by the IRCTC staff. However, Kale did record a video showing the worm-infested omelette as proof.

How has IRCTC responded?

GV Sonna, an Assistant Managet at IRCTC, said that they had received a complaint on August 21. However, he added that there was no proof attached with the complaint, making it difficult for them to ascertain the authenticity of the allegation. He said that the complaint has already been forwarded to the IRCTC headquarters, who would be investigating the matter.
