New Delhi: Akshay Shrikant Bapat is set to be next Director (Technical) of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), a Miniratna PSU under the Ministry of Coal. He has been recommended for the post by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) panel on February 27. Presently, he is serving as Executive Director (Environment) in Coal India Limited (CIL).

Bapat has been recommended for the post of Director (Technical) of MCL from a list of eight candidates, who were interviewed by the PESB selection panel. Candidates who were interviewed by the PESB panel were from organisations namely - Coal India Limited (CIL), Western Coalfields Limited (WCL), Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), , South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), NLC India Limited, NTPC Limited, Dilip Buildcon Limited and GHCL Limited.

As Director (Technical) of MCL, Bapat will be a member of the Board of Directors and will report to Chairman and Managing Director (CMD). He will be responsible for operation of mines and also of field activities, technical functions and safety of mines.
