BHEL appoints Nigar Fatima Husain (IDES) as Govt Nominee Director on its Board

New Delhi: Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has announced the appointment of Nigar Fatima Husain (IDES) as Part-time Official (Government Nominee) Director on its Board, with effect from April 27.

The appointment follows an order received from the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI), Govt of India and has been approved by the Board of Directors of BHEL. With this, Fatima has succeeded MHI's Special Secretary & Financial Adviser Asit Gopal, who has ceased to be Director on the company’s Board.

Fatima is currently serving as Additional Secretary & Financial Advisor in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Ministry of Heavy Industries, Government of India. An officer of the Indian Defence Estates Service (1996 batch), she brings with her extensive administrative and financial experience across key government departments.

She holds a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Zoology from Kolkata University, an LLB from Delhi University, and a postgraduate degree in Sociology from Dr. Harisingh Gour Vishwavidyalaya, Sagar.

Over the course of her career, Fatima has held several important positions, including Chief Executive Officer of multiple cantonment boards such as Roorkee, Jhansi, Deolali and Mhow. She has also served as Deputy Director General and Additional Director General in the Defence Estates organisation, where she handled vigilance and defence land management matters at the national level.

In addition, she has worked as Director in the Department of School Education and Literacy and as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Minority Affairs.
