Braithwaite CMD Md Asad Alam resigns on health grounds; Railway Board waives off notice period

Braithwaite & Co CMD Md Asad Alam has resigned with immediate effect on health grounds, the Railway Board said that it has waived off the 3-month notice period

New Delhi: Md Asad Alam, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Braithwaite & Company Limited (BCL), has resigned from the post on health grounds, and the Ministry of Railways’ Railway Board approved the resignation with immediate effect, waiving the three-month notice period, according to an official letter dated December 11 accessed by PSU Watch. The letter, signed by Ravi Shekhar, Joint Secretary (Deputation) of the Railway Board, instructed that Alam “may please be relieved immediately” and that “orders for additional charge arrangement will follow”.

Alam, a 1990-batch Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME) officer, was entrusted with the charge of the post of Chairman & Managing Director of Braithwaite & Co Ltd with effect from February 29, 2024, bringing more than three decades of experience in railway operations and public sector engineering to the role.

Braithwaite & Co Ltd is a Miniratna Category-I public sector enterprise under the administrative control of the Ministry of Railways, engaged in manufacturing railway wagons, cranes, structural steel and other heavy engineering products, with headquarters in Kolkata.

Alam’s tenure at BCL saw the company through key manufacturing achievements and strategic initiatives since his appointment in early 2024, when he took over as CMD following his service as Chief Rolling Stock Engineer (Coaching) at South Eastern Railway.
