The company has confirmed that Mohapatra is not debarred from holding the office of director by any SEBI order or any other competent authority.

An accomplished technocrat with more than three decades of experience, Mohapatra began his career with SAIL in October 1989 as a Management Trainee (Technical) at Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP). He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Regional Engineering College, Rourkela (now NIT Rourkela), completed in 1988.

During his 34-year tenure with SAIL, Mohapatra has held several key positions. At RSP, he rose to become GM (Utilities) and GM (Services) in 2017 and 2019, respectively. He was later entrusted with the role of Head of the Material Management Department, exercising the powers of Executive Director (Materials Management).

In June 2022, Mohapatra was posted as Executive Director (Projects) at Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL), where he played a pivotal role in project execution. He was also given additional responsibility as ED (Materials Management) from January 2024. Under his leadership as ED (Works) from November 2024, BSL achieved significant improvements in production and profitability.

Before taking charge at Bhilai Steel Plant, Mohapatra served as the Head of Works Division at BSL and was also on the Board of Directors of Bokaro Power Supply Company (P) Limited (BPSCL).
