H Shankar appointed as Managing Director of CPCL

The ACC has approved the appointment of H Shankar as the Managing Director (MD) of Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL)

New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of H Shankar as the Managing Director (MD) of Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL), a subsidiary of Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL).

Shankar, who was serving as Director (Technical) at CPCL, has assumed the role with effective from April 1. Previously, he has been holding additional charge as Managing Director of CPCL since July 16, 2024.

According to the official order issued from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), Shankar’s tenure as MD of CPCL will continue until his superannuation on March 31, 2029, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. The Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas has been formally notified of this decision.

Shankar, a seasoned professional with extensive experience in the petroleum and refining sector, has played a crucial role in CPCL’s technological advancements and operational efficiencies. His elevation to the top position comes at a time when CPCL is focusing on expanding its refining capacity and strengthening its contribution to India's energy security.

Shankar is a Mechanical Engineer and MBA in General Management with an extensive knowledge in business management, strategic planning, and leadership. With over three decades of experience in all facets of refinery operations, he has played pivotal roles in project management, leading numerous large-scale projects from inception to completion. His proficiency in contracts management has optimised costs and ensured timely resource delivery, while his in-depth knowledge of health, safety, and environment (HSE) has fostered a culture of safety and environmental stewardship.
