Jaya Varma Sinha (IRMS) assumes charge as Chairperson & CEO of Railway Board

Jaya Varma Sinha (IRMS) has assumed charge as Chairperson & CEO of the Railway Board with effect from September 1, 2023

New Delhi: Jaya Varma Sinha has assumed charge as Chairperson & Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Railway Board with effect from September 1, 2023. With this, she became the women to head Railway Board. Prior to this, she was serving as a Member (Operations & Business Development) of Railways Board. She has replaced Anil Kumar Lahoti.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved her appointment on August 31. According to an order issued from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), Sinha has been appointed to the post for a period with effect from the date of assumption of charge on or after September 1, 2023, till the date of her superannuation and her re-employment on the post with effect from September 1, 2023, till August 31, 2024 on usual terms and conditions, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Sinha is an Alumnus of Allahabad University, Sinha joined the Indian Railway Traffic Service in 1988 and worked in Northern Railway, South-East Railway and Eastern Railway.

She also worked as Railway Advisor in the High Commission of India, Dhaka, Bangladesh for four years. The Maitree Express from Kolkata to Dhaka was inaugurated during her tenure in Bangladesh. She also worked as the Divisional Railway Manager, Eastern Railway, Sealdah Division.
