New Delhi: The Department of Financial Services (DFS), Ministry of Finance, has appointed Dinesh Pant, Managing Director and Key Managerial Personnel (KMP) of the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), as Whole-Time Member (Actuary) of the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI).

LIC informed stock exchanges through a regulatory filing on Tuesday that the appointment was made by the Department of Financial Services vide notification dated June 15.

According to LIC, Pant will serve as Whole-Time Member (Actuary) at IRDAI for a period of five years from the date he assumes charge of the post, or until he attains the age of 65 years, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Pant is a seasoned insurance and actuarial professional with over 35 years of experience across actuarial services, product development, investments, risk management, marketing and international insurance operations. He served as Managing Director of Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) from June 2025 and was previously LIC’s Appointed Actuary and Executive Director (Actuarial).

A Fellow of both the Institute of Actuaries of India and the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, UK, Pant holds degrees in Engineering and Law, along with an MBA. He has played a pivotal role in shaping LIC’s actuarial and product strategy and was a key member of the management team that successfully executed LIC’s landmark IPO in 2022.

Pant has held several leadership positions within LIC, including heading life insurance operations at Kenindia Assurance Company Ltd., Kenya. He has also led key functions in investment management, treasury operations, product development and risk management. Since joining LIC in 1989, he has gained extensive experience across diverse operational and strategic domains of the insurance sector.

He has served as a permanent special invitee to the LIC Board since 2017 and has been associated with various industry, regulatory and professional committees related to insurance, pensions, investments and risk management.
