Mohd Taj Mukarrum appointed as Director (Finance) of POWERGRID

The government has appointed Mohammed Taj Mukarrum as Director (Finance) of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL)

New Delhi: (PSU Appointment) Mohammed Taj Mukarrum has been appointed as new Director (Finance) of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL), a Maharatna PSU under the Ministry of Power, on July 3. He has assumed as Director (Finance) of POWERGRID on Saturday. In an order dated on July 3, the government has approved his appointed for a period with effect from the date of his assumption of the charge of the post till the date of his superannuation i.e. July 31, 2022, or until further orders whichever is earlier. Prior to this, Mukarrum was serving as Executive Director (Finance) in POWERGRID's corporate headquarters in Gurugram.

Earlier, PSU Watch had reported when Mukarrum was recommended for the post of Director (Finance) of POWERGRID by a PESB panel on February 6. He was selected from the list of seven candidates, who were interviewed by the selection panel. A total of five candidates including Mukarrum, who were on the list, were from POWERGRID and two candidates were from the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) and NTPC Limited.

Mukarrum's profile

After completing B Com and MBA (Finance), he started his career as an Executive Trainee (Finance) in October 1984 in NTPC limited and moved to POWERGRID in August 1991.

Mukarrum has about thirty-five years of experience in power sector which includes long term financial planning, financial concurrence, CAPEX & O&M payments, vetting of de-tailed project reports (DPR) and revised cost estimates (RCE), coordination for project financial viability appraisal by external professional agencies for consultancy business vertical including smart grid and energy efficiency such as electric vehicle charging (eV), energy audits, setting up smart grid cities infrastructure, railway electrification projects. Since then, he has worked in many capacities at different sites and head-quarters of Western, Southern & Northern Regions of POWERGRID and has also been functioning as part-time Director in: Four 100% POWERGRID owned TBCB companies: Parli TL, Warora TL, Varanasi TL, Jawaharpur Firozabad Transmission Limited and Two JVs: RINL POWERGRID TLT Private Limited & Power Transmission Company Nepal Limited. 

Powergrid Corporation of India Limited

Powergrid Corporation of India Limited, also known as POWERGRID, is a state-owned electric utility company headquartered in Gurugram. It is a Maharatna PSU under the administrative control of the Ministry of Power. The company transmits about 50 percent of the total power generated in India through the transmission network. Its former subsidiary company Power System Operation Corporation Limited (POSOCO) handles power management for the national grid and all state transmission utilities.
