New Delhi: Vikas Kaushal has been appointed as the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) and is believed to have taken an 80 percent pay cut to take up this role. His name was proposed by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. “The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the proposal of the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas for appointment of Shri Vikas Kaushal (DOB 17.09.1971), in relaxation of the eligibility criteria, to the post of Chairman and Managing Director (CMD), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL)…,” said an order dated March 6.

Who is Vikas Kaushal, HPCL’s new CMD?

Kaushal is a seasoned global leader with over three decades of experience in energy, oil and gas, and power sectors. He is a chemical engineering graduate from Panjab University and has done his MBA from Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad. Twice elected to Kearney’s Global Board of Directors, he completed two full terms (maximum allowed in Kearney’s board structure). He also served as Chair of the Finance, Audit, and Governance Committees. He has also served as Managing Director and Country Head for Kearney India for five years. He has been an advisor and consultant to global and Indian companies, including HPCL, Indian Oil, BPCL, GAIL etc for a long period of time. He also led a five-year digital transformation programme, making Indian Oil a consistent award-winner for the Best Digital Oil Company.
