New Delhi: (PESB Recommendation) The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) said on Tuesday that they held a meeting to select a candidate for the post of Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), a Coal Indian subsidiary, but could not find any suitable candidate. There were a total of six candidates who appeared for the interview. Out of six, two candidates were from MCL, two candidates were from Western Coalfields Limited (WCL), and one each from Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) and Central Mine Planning & Design Institute Limited (CMPDIL).

In a minutes-of-the-meeting released after the selection panel meeting was over, the PESB Board said that they do not recommend any candidate for the post. The board advised the Ministry of Coal to choose an appropriate course of further action for the selection, including the formation of a search-cum-selection committee (SCSC), or whatever they deem appropriate with the approval of the competent authority.

The PESB had posted a vacancy for the post of Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of MCL on its portal in December 2019. Currently, Bhola Nath Shukla is serving as MCL's CMD but he is set to superannuate on November 1 this year.
