New Delhi: Anjani Kumar is set to be next Director (Technical) of Western Coalfields Limited (WCL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited. He has been recommended for the post by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) panel on Monday. Presently, he is serving as Executive Director (Contracts) at Coal India Limited (CIL).

Kumar has been recommended for the post of Director (Technical) of WCL from a list of 11 candidates, who were interviewed by the PESB selection panel in its selection meeting held on June 22. The other candidates, who were on the list, were senior executives from South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL), Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), Central Mine Planning & Design Institute Limited (CMPDI), Hindustan Copper Limited and NLC India Limited.

Kumar has been serving as Executive Director (Contracts) at Coal India Limited (CIL) since October 17, 2025. With more than three decades of experience at CIL, he has held key positions across various departments, including Vigilance, Coal Mining Consultancy (CMC), and Technical Secretary to the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD). He holds a B.Tech and a Ph.D. from IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, along with an MBA from Sikkim Manipal University (SMU).
WCL is a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, is one of the major coal-producing companies in the country with mining operations spread across Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.
