PESB picks B Sairam for NCL's CMD post

New Delhi: B Sairam is set to be next Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), a Miniratna PSU under the Ministry of Coal. He has been recommended for the post by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) panel on Friday. Presently, he is serving as Director (Technical/P&P) in Central Coalfields Limited (CCL).

Sairam has been recommended for the post of CMD of NCL from a list of 12 candidates, who were interviewed by the PESB panel in its selection meeting held on November 3. Out of 12 candidates, two candidates were from NCL, two from CMPDIL and one each from WCL, MCL, CCL, ECL, SAIL, NTPC Limited, IRTS and IRSEE.

Sairam is a graduate mining engineer from NIT Raipur. He has over 31 years of experience in coal sector having worked in different capacities in mine operations, planning, logistics and regulatory aspects. He joined Coal India Limited (CIL) in 1991 and worked in South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) and CIL Corporate HQ. He did a 15-month full-time residential PGDM on Management at NTPC School of Business Delhi.

As part of the course, he underwent 15-days' immersion program at Nanyang Business School Singapore. He was part of the team that travelled to Germany and Poland to study the Just Energy Transition efforts of those countries. Apart from the core field of coal mining at operations and planning fronts, he has the experience of heading the divisions of employee welfare, public relations, csr and legal. His recent assignment included establishing sustainable socio-economic and environmental practices in the coal region. Before joining as Director (Technical) CCL, he was serving as Executive Director at CIL.
