PESB picks RK Tyagi for Power Grid's CMD role

The PESB panel has recommended the name of RK Tyagi for the post of Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL)

New Delhi: RK Tyagi is set to be next Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL), a Maharatna PSU under the Ministry of Power. He has been recommended for the post by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) panel on Thursday. Presently, he is serving as Director (Operations) in the same organisation.

Tyagi has been recommended for the post of CMD of Power Grid from a list of 11 candidates, who were interviewed by the PESB selection panel in its selection meeting held on September 21.  Out of 11 candidates, six candidates were from Power Grid, two candidates were from Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and one each from Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL), Bridge & Roof Company (India) Limited and GAIL (India) Limited.

Tyagi is an Electrical Engineer from Punjab Engineering College (P.E.C.), Chandigarh and has completed M. Tech. in Energy Studies from IIT Delhi. He is a Fulbright Scholar from Carnegie Mellon University, Pennsylvania, USA. He is having a work experience of over 33 years in power sector at various key positions in premier PSUs in power sector such as Power Grid and NTPC.

Tyagi has handled multi-disciplinary functions in various business segments like Asset Management, Project Execution & Monitoring, Engineering, Business Development, Telecom, Load Despatch & Communication, NTAMC, Finance, Commercial, HR Resource Management, Safety, DMS etc. He has been serving as Director (Operations) of Power Grid since August 2022.
