Prasanna Kumar Acharya assumes charge as CMD of NLC India Ltd

Prasanna Kumar Acharya has assumed charge as Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of NLC India Limited on Thursday

New Delhi: Prasanna Kumar Acharya has assumed charge as Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of NLC India Limited on Thursday. Prior to this, he was serving as Director (Finance) in the same oraganisation. He has been appointed to the post for a period of five years, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

On April 15, PSU Watch had reported when Acharya was recommended for the top post of NLC India Ltd by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) panel. He was among seven candidates who were interviewed by the selection panel. 

Dr Acharya is a seasoned professional with nearly three decades of rich and diverse experience across leading Indian organisations in the Power, Mining and Infrastructure sectors. Prior to assuming charge as CMD, he served as Director (Finance) of NLC India Limited. During his professional career, he has held key positions in organisations including GRIDCO, NTPC and Tata Power.

Dr. Prasanna Kumar Acharya holds a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (Honours) from Utkal University, Odisha, and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from M.S. Law College, Cuttack, Odisha.

He holds a Master of Commerce from Ravenshaw University, Odisha, and a Master of Business Administration (MBA). He is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of India and an Associate Member of the Institute of company Secretaries of India. He holds a Doctorate in Philosophy (Ph.D.) from Utkal University, Odisha, and has also undergone a Management Development Programme in Strategic Finance at IIM Lucknow.

His professional journey encompasses diverse domains, including power generation, transmission, distribution and mining, as well as metro rail infrastructure. He made significant contributions to major infrastructure initiatives, including the Phase-II Project of Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), a project with an estimated value of over Rs 63,000 crore.

During his tenure at NLC India Limited, Dr Acharya has led several initiatives in digital transformation and governance reforms, including ERP modernisation, centralisation of various Finance functions, adoption of AI-enabled systems and introduction of a Vendor Invoice Management System. His strategic leadership has also contributed to securing critical Government approvals and advancing initiatives relating to acquisition of coal and critical mineral blocks and renewable energy projects.

He has played an important role in steering joint ventures with various State utilities and in supporting NLCIL’s ambitious growth roadmap, which envisages achieving more than 20 GW of power generation capacity and over 100 MTPA of mining capacity by 2030.
