New Delhi: Rajesh Kumar Chandel has assumed charge as Director (Projects) of SJVN Limited, a Navratna public sector enterprise said in an official statement on Thursday. At present, he serves as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the CMD of SJVN.

Before taking over as Director (Projects), he was the Chief Executive Officer of SJVN Arun-3 Power Development Company Pvt. Ltd. and SJVN Lower Arun Power Development Company Pvt. Ltd., the company's wholly owned subsidiaries in Nepal. He was responsible for overseeing the 900 MW Arun-3 Hydro Electric Project and the 669 MW Lower Arun Hydro Electric Project.
Chandel has more than 35 years of experience in the power sector, with a focus on hydroelectric projects. His experience includes project planning, execution, monitoring and coordination of projects in India, Nepal and Bhutan.
Earlier, he served as Managing Director and Member Secretary of Punatsangchhu Hydro Electric Power Authority-II in Bhutan, where he played a key role in the commissioning of the 1,020 MW Punatsangchhu Hydro Electric Project. In 2020, he led the 66 MW Dhaulasidh Hydro Electric Project from the planning stage to the start of construction.
He has also contributed to the construction of the Head Race Tunnel of the 1,500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station in Himachal Pradesh. During his career at SJVN, he has held various positions in the Corporate Monitoring and Coordination Department, Corporate Facility Management Department and the Office of Director (Civil).

Chandel started his professional career with HIMUDA in 1990 and joined SJVN on May 5, 1994.
A graduate in Civil Engineering, Chandel also holds a Master's degree in Business Administration. He is a Fellow of The Institution of Engineers (India) and a Chartered Engineer.
SJVN Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Bhupender Gupta and Director (Personnel) Ajay Kumar Sharma congratulated Chandel on his appointment. He was welcomed by Director (Finance) Parthajit De, Chief Vigilance Officer Pankaj Porwal and other senior officials at the company's Liaison Office in New Delhi.
