Ramesh Chandra Mohapatra takes charge as Director (Technical) at SECL

Ramesh Chandra Mohapatra on Wednesday assumed charge as Director (Technical) at South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL)

New Delhi: Ramesh Chandra Mohapatra on Wednesday assumed charge as Director (Technical) at South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited (CIL). On the occasion, SECL Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) Harish Duhan welcomed Mohapatra and extended his best wishes. Subhashree Mohapatra, along with senior functional directors of SECL, including Director (Technical) Operations N Franklin Jayakumar and Director (HR) Biranchi Das, were also present.

Before his appointment at SECL, Mohapatra was serving as Area General Manager of Jhanjhra Area at Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL). With over three decades of experience in coal mining, he brings expertise in both underground and opencast operations, with a proven record of driving production growth, introducing advanced mining technologies, and addressing land, rehabilitation, and community engagement issues.

An alumnus of IIT-BHU, where he graduated in Mining Engineering in 1990, Mohapatra also holds an MBA in Human Resources and is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India). He began his professional journey at Surakachha Colliery in the Korba Area of SECL and went on to hold several leadership roles, including Colliery Manager, Project Officer, Additional General Manager, and Area General Manager across SECL and ECL.

During his career, Mohapatra has successfully led some of the largest mining projects of Coal India, delivering operational efficiencies and sustainable growth. He has also represented the Indian coal sector at international platforms such as the African Mining Indaba and Czech industrial collaboration talks.
