RITES CMD Rahul Mithal’s tenure extended till June 2027

The Ministry of Railways has approved the extension of tenure of Rahul Mithal as CMD of RITES beyond October 6, 2026, till his superannuation on June 30, 2027

New Delhi: The Ministry of Railways has approved the extension of tenure of Rahul Mithal as Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of RITES Limited beyond October 6, 2026, till his superannuation on June 30, 2027, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

In a regulatory filing on Thursday, RITES said the Ministry of Railways communicated the decision through a letter dated August 20, 2026. The extension has been approved by the competent authority.

Mithal will continue to head the state-owned engineering and consultancy company during the extended tenure. RITES said it is in the process of completing the requisite statutory formalities related to the extension of his appointment.

Mithal, an officer of the Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME) from the SCRA 1985 batch, has more than two decades of experience in the railway sector. During his career, he has held several senior positions in Indian Railways, with experience spanning railway operations, projects, services and administration.

He holds an MBA in Finance from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai. He is also a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, UK, and a Chartered Engineer registered with the Engineering Council, UK.

Before joining RITES, Mithal served as a Functional Director on the Board of Container Corporation of India Ltd. (CONCOR) from September 29, 2017, to October 6, 2021. During his four-year tenure, he was responsible for the Projects & Services wing, adding to his experience in project execution and infrastructure-related activities.
