Satish Jha set to be next CMD of Eastern Coalfields Ltd

The PESB panel has recommended the name of Satish Jha for the post of Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL)

New Delhi: Satish Jha is set to be next Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL), a PSU under the Ministry of Coal. He has been recommended for the post by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) on Tuesday. Presently, he is serving as Director (Technical / Projects and Planning) of Central Mine Planning & Design Institute Limited (CMPDIL).

Jha has been recommended for the post from a list of 10 candidates, who were interviewed by the PESB Selection panel in its selection meeting held on July 30. Out of 10 candidates, four candidates were from Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL), three from CMPDIL and one each from Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) and Ministry of Coal.

As CMD of ECL, Jha will be the chief executive of the corporation. He will be accountable to the board of directors of the company and the holding company i.e. Coal India Limited (CIL), and the Government of India. He will also be responsible for the efficient functioning of the Corporation, and for achieving its corporate objectives and performance parameters.
