Rourkela: SAIL's Rourkela Steel Plant has introduced an outbound training facility to groom its employees as effective members of a team, a company official said. The initiative 'Josh' (The Journey of Soaring Higher) was inaugurated on Tuesday by the director in-charge Atanu Bhowmick as a new dimension to the human resources development programme 'Umang', which is aimed at developing the physical and mental abilities of the employees.

The outbound training programme has been designed to improve leadership, communication skills, performance, planning, change management, delegation, teamwork and motivation, an official statement said.

25 employees to participate in 2-day programme

25 employees including men and women from different departments of the plant are taking part in the two-day programme being conducted with expert support from Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF).

"SAIL has undeniably the best human resources in the industry and the quality of its manpower has made its mark in the whole of the country. However, in the highly competitive era, it becomes imperative to adopt innovative methods to develop skills, team building abilities and leadership qualities to keep pace with the emerging market scenario and sustain competitive edge over contemporaries," Bhowmick said

Activities will help participants to develop soft skills

The uniquely designed activities at the facility, which is surrounded by dense forest, will help the participants sharpen their soft skills and synergise to achieve organisational goals, he said.

A 40-feet high rappling tower, wooden planks for Australian walk, tunnel for crawling, parallel rope, rope for monkey jumping and number of other facilities to conduct different games for team building are some of the interesting features of the newly developed centre.
