New Delhi/Agartala: In yet another initiative, as part of 'Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav,' 2X8 MVA, 33/KV substations were inaugurated on Saturday at Dharmanagar & Kumarghat districts of North Tripura by the Deputy Chief Minister of Tripura Jishnu Dev Varma in the presence of Deputy Speaker of Tripura Legislative Assembly Biswa Bandhu Sen, Zilla Sabhadipati of North Tripura Bhabatosh Das and Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited's Managing Director (TSECL) Dr M S Kele and Director (Technical) Debashish Sarkar.

Power Finance Corporation Limited (PFC), a Navratna PSU under the administrative control of the Ministry of Power, is the nodal agency for the implementation of the IPDS scheme.

The event was also attended by senior officials of PFC, TSECL, consumers and the media at large. The inauguration started with the presentation of a cultural song and dance by the local artists which was followed by a painting competition for school children on the theme '75 Years of India's Independence' under the SoP of COVID-19 regulations. As a gesture of goodwill, PFC distributed cash prizes to the winning children.

The total project cost of Dharmanagar is Rs 7.18 crore and the total beneficiaries are 11,287 whereas the total project cost of the Kumarghat substation is Rs 7.09 crore and it will impact 8,897 people and their families.

While on one hand, the implementation of the projects will increase the revenue of the utility, on the other hand, the load shedding and AT&C losses will be reduced thereby benefiting the people of Tripura.

It is pertinent to note that the government of India through the Ministry of Power provides 85 percent of the total project cost.
