New Delhi: Baban Singh has taken over as Director (Technical) of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), a Miniratna PSU under the Ministry of Coal, on Thursday. Prior to this assignment, he was serving as General Manager of South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL). The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) had approved the appointment of Baban Singh as Director (Technical) of MCL on April 28. According to the order, Singh has been appointed on this post for a period with effect from April 30, till November 30, 2021, i.e. till the date of his superannuation, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Baban Singh graduated from ISM in 1985. He has done an MBA in Human Resources. He had worked in various capacities in the opencast and underground mines in Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) and South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL).

Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) is one of the major coal-producing company of India. It is one of the eight subsidiaries of Coal India Limited. Mahanadi Coalfields Limited was carved out of South Eastern Coalfields Limited in 1992 with its headquarters at Sambalpur. It has its coal mines spread across Odisha. The company has a total of seven open cast mines and three underground mines under its fold.
