New Delhi: Against stiff competition, BHEL has secured a prestigious order for the erection work of the upcoming 2×1000 MWe Turbine Generator (TG) island Units 3&4 at Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project in Tamil Nadu. Valued at over Rs 440 crore, the order has been placed with BHEL by Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) which is developing the plant in collaboration with Russia.

For the same project, BHEL has also emerged as the lowest bidder for the erection of the Reactor side equipment.

BHEL has executed Kudankulam orders previously

Earlier, BHEL has successfully executed the erection work of TG island for Units 1&2 at Kudankulam, showcasing its capability in efficiently erecting equipment designed and manufactured by other suppliers, an official press release said.

"BHEL is an established EPC leader for both thermal and nuclear power projects. Twelve out of 18 operating Pressurised Heavy Water Reactors (PHWRs) in the country are equipped with BHEL-supplied steam turbine generator sets, accounting for 74 percent of the installed capacity. BHEL is also currently executing turbine generator packages for 4 units of 700 MWe, 2 units each at Kakrapara and Rawatbhata," the release added.

BHEL closely associated with all three stages of nuclear power programme

BHEL has dedicated infrastructure and skilled manpower to address the special design, manufacturing and testing requirements complying with International Codes and Standards for various components/equipment of nuclear power plants. The company has proved its capability as a designer and manufacturer of both primary and secondary side equipment for nuclear power projects and is closely associated in all the three stages of the nuclear power program of the country, the statement said.
