SAIL's Bhilai Steel Plant has exported over 40,000 tonnes of cast billets from its Modex unit Steel Melting Shop-3 (SMS-3) to China since April

Bhilai: Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) of Steel Authority of India (SAIL) on Thursday said that the plant has dispatched over 40,000 tonnes of cast billets from its Modex unit Steel Melting Shop-3 (SMS-3) for export to China since April. After fulfilling two orders of 20,000 T each of 150x150 mm size billets to China in the months of April and May 2020, despatches of a fresh order of 20,000 tonnes of 150x150 mm size billets have also begun. This additional order from China is to be processed by June 15.

Further, BSP has received two new orders of 10,000 tonnes each of 105x105 mm size cast billets from SMS-3. Despatches against the first of these two orders begun on Thursday. The 105x105 mm size cast billets consignments are being despatched to Asian port from where it would be despatched to customers.

Customers of 105x105 mm size cast billets have demanded that the billets to be despatched in bundles, for which packets of six billets were to be made. Bhilai’s SMS-3 is a Modex unit of SAIL that produces crude steel through the continuous casting process. It is equipped with three numbers of Convertors, two billet casters and one bloom caster. Besides supplying cast blooms to Universal Rail Mill for rolling into world’s longest 130-metre rails, SMS 3 supplies cast billets in 150x150 mm size as input to the Plant’s Bar & Rod Mill and cast billets in 105x105 mm size to the Plant’s Merchant Mill and Wire Rod Mill.
