BSP takes preventive measures against coronavirus

Bhilai: SAIL's Bhilai Steel Plant is taking large-scale preventive measures in connection with the outbreak of coronavirus all over the world. Measures have also been taken to spread awareness with the latest information on COVID-19 (new Corona Virus) as available on WHO website & with national/local public health authorities. Employees are also being made aware of General advisory issued by the Ministry of Health & Family Affairs.

As a precautionary measure, the biometric attendance system has been discontinued in the plant as well as in the township till 31st March 2020. Large public meetings and mass communication programmes involving many employees inside the plant or in the township have been deferred. All internal exams and any extra-curricular activities in schools run by the Plant have been deferred in line to the state govt directives. Central Library at Human Resource Development Centre & Public Library, Civic Centre shall be closed till 31 March 2020. Only books due for return will be accepted during working hours.

Cultural Events Deferred: The popular Chhattisgarh Lok Kala Mahotsav organised by the Plant's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Dept that draws large crowds has been postponed. It was scheduled to be held in Bhilai from 27th to 29th March 2020. While the Hasya Kavi Sammelan that was scheduled to be held in Mahatma Gandhi Kala Mandir on 14th March has already been cancelled, there shall be no allotment of Kala Mandir for conducting socio-cultural functions. All Clubs in Township have also been instructed to refrain from organising any large gathering.

Awareness drive: Awareness drive has been undertaken by Plant. While Posters with the 'Do's and Don'ts' messages pertaining to the disease are being distributed, hoardings are being put in some strategic locations in the township to create awareness and advising people not to panic. A short film has been made by the Public Relations Dept with information along with visuals regarding the symptoms as well as Do's and Don'ts pertaining to the disease. It has also stressed on the fact that corona is preventable and there is no need to panic. The film along with several posters on General Advisory with respect to protective measures on COVID-19 issued by Ministry of Health & Family Affairs, Govt of India, as well as poster designs issued by Corporate Affairs Division, SAIL and poster designed by Plant's Public Relations Department, have been uploaded on the Plant's intranet and are also being circulated through social media for awareness. The Plant's CSR Dept will also be reaching out to people in model steel villages to make them aware about Do's and Don'ts pertaining to the disease.

Sports event deferred: The Inter Steel Handball Tournament that was to be organised by SAIL-BSP under the aegis of Steel Plant Sports Board from March 24, has been postponed. Various ongoing sporting events including Inter-alumni CEO Cricket tournament have also been deferred. Other sporting events including Inter Dept Cricket Tournament and Inter-Club volleyball, inter-club table tennis and inter-club yoga programmes have also been cancelled. Any remaining cadets of Handball and Athletics Academy have also been asked to leave for their respective homes.

Isolation wards in JLN Hospital: Director I/c (M & HS) Dr SK Issar has appealed to the population to avoid going to crowded places. He has also appealed to people to desist from going to Hospitals unless required as chances of infection are more in hospitals. While separate male, female and paediatric isolations wards have been reserved in Plant's JLN Hospital and personal protective equipment have been arranged, the non-invasive ventilator is also in place at the hospital. The number of beds in the isolation wards has been increased to 100. The Plant's M &HS Dept has also lined up with AIIMS, Raipur for referring suspected cases for testing.
