Domestic airline passengers departing from terminal 2 at Mumbai airport can now verify their boarding cards by scanning the QR code of their pass on their mobile phone at e-gates reader

Mumbai: The stamping of boarding passes by Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) staff might only be a thing of the past at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA). The airport has been equipped with technology that does away with the need for domestic passengers to stamp boarding passes out of terminal 2, Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) stated in a release. Apart from international carriers, all fully operational domestic airliners, including Air India, Jet Airways and Vistara, operate at terminal 2.

"Domestic passengers travelling from terminal 2 can now authenticate their boarding pass at pre-embarkation security check point by scanning the boarding pass barcode or QR code on their phone at the e-gates reader."

Domestic airline passengers departing from terminal 2 at CSMIA can instead verify their boarding cards by scanning the QR code of their pass on their mobile phone at e-gates reader.

"Domestic passengers travelling from terminal 2 can now authenticate their boarding pass at pre-embarkation security check point by scanning the boarding pass barcode or QR code on their phone at the e-gates reader," the MIAL said in a statement.

In a move aimed to reduce the time taken to complete pre-flight boarding checks, MIAL further added that the feature has been introduced on a pilot basis. The Mumbai airport also became India's first to introduce the "digi yatra" feature.

An initiative by the Civil Aviation Ministry and the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), digi yatra was set off with the objective to minimise paperwork that is required for air travel, under a digital system for boarding flights and airport entry using Aadhaar numbers and mobile phones of the passengers.
