ACC approves appointments of new Secretaries in Ministry of External Affairs

New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointments of two senior Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officers to key positions in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), effective after the superannuation of the current incumbents on August 31, 2025.

Sudhakar Dalela, a 1993 batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, has been appointed as Secretary (Economic Relations) in the MEA. He will take over from Dammu Ravi (IFS:1989), who is set to retire on August 31, 2025. Dalela, a seasoned diplomat with extensive experience in bilateral and multilateral diplomacy, currently serves in a senior role within the MEA.

In another major appointment, Sibi George (IFS:1993) has been appointed as Secretary (West) in the MEA, succeeding Tanmaya Lal (IFS:1991), who will also superannuate on the same date. Sibi George has held several prominent diplomatic assignments, including ambassadorial roles, and brings a deep understanding of India’s engagement with countries in the western hemisphere.

The official orders were issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, on July 29. Both appointments are part of the regular senior-level administrative reshuffle approved by the ACC.
