New Delhi: Former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Praveen Vashista has taken oath as the Vigilance Commissioner in the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) on Friday. The President of India has appointed Vashista as Vigilance Commissioner in CVC.
According to an official release, the appointment was made through a presidential warrant dated December 12, 2025. Vashista took oath as Vigilance Commissioner on Friday, before the Central Vigilance Commissioner, who was authorised by the President of India.
Praveen Vashista is a 1991-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Bihar cadre and brings with him over three decades of experience across a wide range of critical assignments in law enforcement, internal security, and investigation. During his career, he has held key positions including Inspector General of Police in the Economic Offences Wing and Criminal Investigation Department of Bihar.
As Superintendent of Police, he served in several sensitive districts such as Ranchi, Dumka and Garhwa, where he was responsible for maintaining law and order. He has also served in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) at the levels of Superintendent of Police and Deputy Inspector General.
On central deputation, Vashista has handled important portfolios in the Ministry of Home Affairs, serving as Joint Secretary, Additional Secretary, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) and Special Secretary (Internal Security), contributing to policy formulation and implementation in the internal security domain.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by senior officials from the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the Enforcement Directorate (ED), and the Central Vigilance Commission.
The Central Vigilance Commission comprises a Central Vigilance Commissioner and two Vigilance Commissioners. The tenure of a Vigilance Commissioner is four years or until the incumbent attains the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier.
