The Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) issued the formal order on August 7, instructing the Government of Kerala to relieve Ali immediately so that he can take up his new role at MNRE without delay.

In a separate development, the State Government of Kerala has also appointed him as Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) Limited on a deputation basis. His appointment was formalized by the state government via Order No. 99/2025/POWER, dated May 7, 2025, and issued by the General Administration Department.

Ali, originally hailing from Chennai, holds academic degrees in electronics engineering and political science. He secured an impressive All India Rank of 59 in the Civil Services Examination and went on to serve in several impactful administrative roles. Notably, as District Collector of Kannur from August 2016, he spearheaded the initiative to make Kannur India’s first plastic-disposable-free district. In his tenure as Director of Survey & Land Records, he conceptualised and implemented the innovative "Map My Home" project, engaging college students and leveraging Google Maps. He also launched the “VR Kannur App,” a unique platform enabling citizens to rate the performance of government offices and officials, thereby enhancing public accountability.

Beyond district administration, Ali has been at the forefront of several state-level initiatives in Kerala. As Director of the State Suchitwa Mission, he has overseen Kerala’s waste management efforts. He also leads the state’s anti-fake news division and launched the "Satya J Project" aimed at training students and teachers to identify misinformation. His forward-thinking approach has earned him recognition—Kannur bagged five Kerala e-Governance Awards in 2019 under his leadership, including for best e-Governed district. Most recently, as of May 2025, he held multiple high-level responsibilities, including Chairman & Managing Director of Kerala State Electricity Board Ltd, Managing Director of Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation, and Special Secretary in the Power Department.
