New Delhi: The Government of India has appointed Pavan Kumar Malapati (IAS) as Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Defence under the Central Staffing Scheme. The appointment has been approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) and will be for a tenure of four years from the date of assumption of charge or until further orders, whichever comes earlier.

Malapati is a 2012-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Karnataka cadre. Presently, he is serving as Deputy Commissioner at Ballari, Karnataka.

The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), in an official order dated June 2025, has directed the Chief Secretary of Karnataka to relieve Malapati of his current responsibilities and instruct him to take up his new assignment in New Delhi without delay.

As per existing ACC guidelines, IAS officers appointed under the Central Staffing Scheme are required to join their new posts within three weeks of the issue of the appointment order. Failure to do so may invite debarment from the Central Staffing Scheme.
